Dear Community Members,

We will be implementing a new platform to better meet the needs of this community and allow us to provide support more efficiently. Our focus is to create a sustainable platform that performs well and loads faster on all devices while offering seamless ways to search and connect. Technology is constantly innovating - by creating an environment that we control we can maintain the site with more frequent improvements and maintenance updates.

Although change can be difficult, we are here to support you through the process. We make every effort to review existing settings and make the changes needed so the migration goes smoothly. If you notice something doesn't seem correct once the site goes live, don't panic! We'll have a dedicated person monitoring as the site goes live to answer any questions and provide support through this change.

What's next?

I bet you're thinking, "What does this mean for me and the community?" It does mean change, but it will help solve a large majority of the issues that this site may have been experiencing. We have reviewed reported issues, site statistics, traffic data, and user feedback to help us prioritize the changes and improvements. Uploading an image or video will be easier and streamlined. Ad formatting will change with a new site layout. The site will be more responsive - there is no need to use a mobile skin or special app! Security and user privacy will continue to be a top priority.

When will this be happening? Soon! We recognize the user experience is slow and there are bugs from the outdated software. The sooner we can change that the better we can make the experience for you. You'll start to see activity related to cleanup in preparation for migration very shortly. We will post an announcement to the community prior to starting the actual data migration. Once the migration begins, the site will go into maintenance mode and will be read-only while data is being migrated.

We appreciate each member's contribution to this community and look forward to an improved experience for you all.

- Community Support

Must say everythimg you have said worries me. I didn't know we had a problem at all on this site so - Ad formatting will change with a new site layout. - and - offering seamless ways to search and connect - what does that mean? We have reviewed reported issues and user feedback to help us prioritize the changes and improvements- sounds like management bollox speak to me. Wonderful phrases which mean absolutely nothing when you look at them closely.
Can you be specific about what you are actually going to do? I can't see anything in what you have said that actually says what you are going to do apart from vague aims and I was going to say objectives but I can't actually find one!

Sorry but I remain to be convinced
Just more bloated software with more holes than a sieve.

You must remember, in the main, these sites exist for the benefit of the operators, not the people using them.

I want to give you an update on the process I use once the site goes live with the new platform.

The night before the site goes live you will see an announcement from me that the site will be going live soon. Once the actual process starts, the site will be in read-only mode while the team does the migration from the old platform to the new one.

Once it goes live you will see an announcement thread created here in this section. All questions and feedback about the new platform should be posted ONLY in that thread.

  • You will see my reply to the thread introducing myself.
  • I will add a new signature and avatar to the admin account.

What should you be doing now before this happens?

  • Make sure your email address is up to date in your account.
  • If you don't remember your password, now would be a good time to reset it. Save the information.
  • The link that displays all your attachments on the site will not be available, but all attachments will still be in your posts. It might be worth taking the time to browse through the attachment list to see if you want to add anything from there to your albums for easy access later.

When Will This All Happen?

cactusforums.co.uk is currently scheduled for October 12th. HOWEVER, the schedule is very fluid, so that could change depending on any complications or schedule changes. I am simply giving you a heads up.

As your dedicated support, I will be here with you multiple times a day once the site goes live with the new platform, answering questions, and listening to feedback.

My only request is that you remain patient with me while we work through the changes. :)

We will be migrating the site to a customized version of XenForo. Your content will remain. We are simply migrating to new forum software.

I would have prefered that to the waffle in the first post, thank you for eventually taking the time to reply

As a new Cactus owner I came here with happy enthusiasm and received exactly the help I needed in my first post. A great experience. The site is clear, helpful and free.

To read such negativity aimed at the Admin or Moderator surprised and saddened me, Mr Hurley. If it was a subscription service I might understand - to an extent - valid questions about the future. People seem to think it their "right" to show their displeasure in no uncertain terms on the Internet, more so when the service is free because there is no trace or come-back. (I myself am a moderator for another non-connected web-site).

I'm sure I'll be suitably reprimanded for my post. Apologies to the site Admins if this happens.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone on here get reprimanded, it's a Cactus Forum not a secondary school.

I doubt anyone has any negative feelings towards Rob who I believe set all of this up and kept it going for many years, I think there's just a little bit of confusion as to what the new owners of the forums, VerticalScope (aka "Admin" - whoever this / they may be, a bot even?), intentions are for the forum once it shifts to their own platform.

You'll note that "Admin" never engages with anyone, even when directly questioned, it's as if it's a copy and paste mechanism that's being used across a vast suite of places they're adding to their portfolio rather than it being someone there who actually knows anything about these cars, the members here and so on. Oh wait...

It seems to me that VerticalScope, being who they are, will have ways they plan to monetise the content from here or target us directly to benefit themselves, which is fine if we get an enhanced community that's growing due to being more visible (VerticalScope SEO should see to that right?) and therefore becomes more useful as a result as more people (ideally with knowledge and not just questions) join up in the future.

I don't care if a big corp with an office in the Caymans wants to take over every forum in the world to profit from it, just be honest about it :)

Thanks for the feedback. Appreciated. Good to learn more about the outfit, so to speak.

I'd noticed the Cactus forum was one among many. Not sure who is who in the heirarchy.

Loved the comment about secondary schools. By making the comment I did I was just apologising in advance if I got 'flamed' for being outspoken as such a newby.

Now that Citroen have basically dropped the C4 Cactus I guess it's logical the forum will be absorbed by something else as a sub-forum. Whoever may own that.

And quite right, if companies wish to monetise their 'product' of course they can. As Bob Cringely once said, "if the service is free then you are the product".

Sage words.

By the way, I'm also loving my C4 Cactus!

New Forum Software Going Live Soon!

Dear Members,

Your new site will be going live soon! We are almost at the starting line and are really excited for you to experience the new community platform.

When the migration starts shortly, the site will be put into maintenance read-only mode (later today or early tomorrow morning) while the migration is underway until completion. We will post when the process is complete and the site is live. We look forward to your feedback and first impressions in the "Community Feedback: New Forum Software Is Live!" thread.

You will have dedicated support to help you transition to the new format.

I will be here to answer your questions and help you every step of the way. :)

- Cricket

Special Note: To avoid any confusion, I will be closing this thread now. All new comments will be posted to the "Community Feedback: New Forum Software Is Live!" thread once the migration to the new software is complete.
