As with all of you, I'm having the same issue with the console when using DAB and sometimes Bluetooth. I've tried doing the update but it keeps saying there is a file error. What should be the file structure and usb format?

I have the USB in exFAT formatted and the files are in this order:

SMEG_PLUS_UPG
(all other folders & files within this folder)

This folder was taken from the SMEG+ UPG SoftWare 5.43.A.R2.7z zip.

Sorted the issue, USB needed to be formatted to FAT32 - windows 10 now doesn't have that as an option - needed 3rd party software

Adding my wife's car to the list. C4 Cactus 1.2 PureTech, 66 plate. Had the same rebooting issue for over a year (just after the warranty expired). Dealer did a software update that made no difference, and between the dealer and Citroen UK the only solution seemed to be a £1000 screen replacement.

Will do the BBC trick as mentioned here and see what happens. Then possibly try the software update.

Hi - Did this resolve the issue with the screen cutting out?

I bought my cactus YESTERDAY and my screen kept cutting out when I was driving home! I am so deflated, it's the first time I have bought myself a nice car, I've had old bangers for 10 years. I have called the dealer and they said they will try and get me into the nearest Citroen garage. Am I going to have to pay to solve the issue? I noticed myslef that it was only when I was listening to BBC radio stations. I asked my engineer friend and he said I was balmy...nice to know I'm not. I have read through all of the comments and I'm wondering if Citroen have recognised the issue and will be able to resolve it for me? Any advice would be much appreciated from a novice car buyer.

A week ago I decided to bite the bullet and update the SMEG software myself. After working out how to unzip the files and put them on my clean USB stick I sat in the car with the engine running for about 35 mins and the operation went well. When it is finished it doesn't tell you, it just reads the USB again and asks if you want to update it from the new program to the same program..! Just say no to this and all should be well. Since updating I have left it on BBC DAB with no cut-outs. Before that it was every few minutes. I have been in touch with the BBC and with Citroen. BBC said it wasn't them and Citroen Customer Services phoned me and spent about 20 minutes, not accepting any responsibility, just saying I should take it to a Main Dealer for an inspection of the fault and possible update (at £100). It seems that it is a glitch in the software and the update seems to work. I feel this should be a free recall by Citroen.
Maybe a noob question, but what did you do?
I unzipped the files using 7z.exe program
Formatted a 16gb stick to FAT32 system
Pasted the resulting files and folders in the root of the USB stick (also tried it into the main software version subfolder, same result)
When I plug it into the car, it says "Failed, unreadable disc".

Am I missing something?

Try format USB flash memory with this program: SD Memory Card Formatter for Windows Download | SD Association

Good news!!!

Thank you for the tip about the SD Memory Card formatter - worked perfectly (even though windows formatting also appeared to be doing it in a FAT32 system...

ANYWAY - here is the process...

With the car off, put the USB stick in the port - THEN start the car and leave it running during the process!
The Update type of USB stick was detected and I was offered the option to proceed and that the system will restart.
First moment of panic - Parking system error beeps, but get resolved on their own. Then... BootRom upgrade ERROR! 😢
Image

I waited patiently for what seemed like the longest 2 minutes ever and it went past this moment

Second panic moment... Hardware ID at level -1 and Hardwarediversity - UNKNOWN, Renesas version - Loader mode 😱
Image

A few moments later... hardware ID, NAV and Renesas back populated correctly 🥳

And finally... after the final reboot and USB disk check... Upgrade was successful! 😎

Pressed No and turned off the car to remove the USB stick.

I can confirm that the BBC DAB station was OK in the 10 minutes or so I left it playing (before the upgrade it was cutting out every 3-4 minutes) and the overally system navigation buttons appeared to be more responsive (not so many repeat/harder presses on the screen needed). I was also amazed that it remembered my phone connected via bluetooth as well, didn't need to re-connect it. And the screen brightness settings I had stored too. Cool!

So - good news overall. Will update if anything else changes.

Big thanks to @djc and @tehnicki for posting and the support. My Citroen C4 Picasso is better for it and so am I! Been waiting for DAB for a long time!

Doesn't the engine have to be running when you upgrade the firmware via USB?

Have updated the post :)

And yes, I turned it off only at the end :) Sorry for the confusion. The engine was running during the update - I turned it off at the end to avoid issues. As you can see in the last image, the CD version is the same at the end - 26482. Before it was 26378.

It is still happening - mine is a 2017 C4
As an FYI, after performing the update, the system has been super stable for me, it no longer restarts whenever you're listening to BBC stations. Bluetooth is fine as well, as are all the other functions, including parking sensors and self parking function.
I can certainly vouch that the update is stable and functional, if you're thinking of taking the plunge.

So, like many here I was expected to do an update which is several Gigs of data and needs to be reformatted. Quite frankly that is ludicrous and Citroen need to address that issue. My screen has done the switch off and on afew times on long journeys and it's disconcerting but the car runs ok. I had a free update a while ago at a Citroen dealership and they asked if I'd like the car washed- I said yes please. It wasn't washed! I was listening to BBC radio 3 when it happened but it seems to be a rebooting issue. I will also contact Citroen. Honest John's is a great site for car problems I will search there too.

Agree with you on that, as a manufacturer, they should take ownership of the issue rather than expect the car owner to do this work for them. It should be a recall.

I can hand on heart confirm the update I have done from the resources provided works absolutely fine. No more screen cut off! 🥳

I had this problem a couple of weeks ago - constant rebooting whilst using the Sat Nav. I was not prepared to do an update myself but I took some advice from the (Ford) garage that sold me the car (the local Citroen dealer was not helpful at all) and read this post. I have deleted all the presets on DAB and unplugged the charger that was permanently connected so that my phone connects via Bluetooth only and it stopped the problem immediately. I might get the problem back and overall, this system is very un user friendly but all is ok for the moment.

Aw, don't be deflated. It is a fantastic car. I love mine though the DAB problem is really irritating. As long as you stay clear of BBC DAB stations you'll be fine. Make sure you don't leave it on BBC DAB even when you switch to FM or Bluetooth otherwise it'll start misbehaving again. Otherwise it's wonderful. Driven over 92k in mine and hope to do many more.
