So my trusty Cactus is soon to be out of warranty and, as i'm planning to keep indefinitely and have no concern for loss of future resale value from lack of service stamps, i will be undertaking future servicing myself.
Thus, just for mine and other like minded owners reference, i would like to clarify and record a concise and definite list of all items that should be checked, changed, and refreshed, and at what intervals.
5l Shell Helix Ultra ECT C2/C3 0-30w full-synthetic £39.90 (@ amazon.co.uk) ... you can get cheaper oil to the same standard from other makes but i have gained a liking for Shell products.
all of the below from euspares.co.uk w/shipping costing £8.45 for the lot;
Bosch Activated-Charcoal Pollen/Passenger Filter £12.21
Bosch engine intake air-filter £11.10
Bosch oil filter £8.63
Bosch fuel filter £16.90
estimated time to fit/replace all above, about 45 mins.
I would suggest you think carefully about using that oil. You MUST use low SAPS oil , suitable for PSA cars in an HDi. That oil doesn't appear to be low SAPS.
EDIT. The C2 and C3 spec is a mid SAPS oil. You need one that is C! or C4. Some brands sell PSA approved oils.
Of course, you did nothing wrong with Shell Helix. The engine manufacturer rather recommends the Turbo Diesel oils from Total brand, which contains "Low SAPS" additives. These oils are specially designed for PSA engines that meet EURO 5 and 6 emission standards.
The recommended oil change interval is about 25,000 to 30,000 kilometers (of course, depending on where and how the car is used). If the car is used in the city and in winter (temperatures below -20 degrees Celsius), of course, the replacement interval is shorter.
When changing the oil, the oil filter must also be replaced. During the oil service, I highly recommend checking the fuel filter, air filter and cab filter. And of course, if you have the option, check it with diagnostics to see if there are any wrong codes in the control unit (for informational purposes, ELM327 for OBD2 is sufficient).
You most likely will find that the plastic undershield is difficult to remove, my car has been maintained by a Citroen dealer within the warranty period and found that they don't bother to replace badly rusted and mangled clips with new ones. (Or taking care not to rip the shield itself).
I ordered a bunch of these with M6 threat and some cap screws and washers, they are inexpensive and will save you time to put the under shield back on (and off the next time).
Judging from past experience (including my own) with previous C4 generations, it may not be a good idea to put a different filter than the original from PSA. This may not be valid for the Cactus and I haven't changed oil since I got the car, but what happened with my previous C4 was aftermarket filters with different design caused an "Oil pressure too low" error after some time. Again, it could be different with the Cactus now, but if that happens to you, at least you know where to start inspecting.
