Loss of power: 130 works like a 110!

Post by carloskipper » Sat Sep 07, 2019 7:24 pm

Hello everyone,

let's go straight to the point: I have a 130 hp petrol (2019) and, when new and in winter, it made 210 kph as top speed, but then, some time passed, and I went to the car dealer for some electronics problem, which was more or less solved, and then, when in summer, I tried again top speed and barely reaches 190 kph. So, I came back to the delear and they made every possibile diagnostic check but everything seems to be working well. So, could it be that, disgracefully, during the software updates made to solve electronics problems, the engine was somehow remapped to 110 hp? Or do the two engines have different components and therefore this cannot be, or simply it's impossibile to remap?

Another option could be that since air density is higher in winter, maybe this engines are very sensible to this changes, and therefore it's all normal, just that it can inhale less air during hot summer.

Moreover I am sure that the two top speed "tests" were done in same condition: weight, tyre pressure, highway trait.

Thank you very much for your help in advance!

Ah! Another information that may help you, is that when tryng top speed I can smell something like exhaust gases in the car... this anyway did not help the car delear to solve the problem.

I would try the test again using fuel with the highest octane rating that you can obtain.

I don’t know under what circumstances this top speed should be achieved, but my 110PT (EAT6) hardly gets up to 180/185 kph...

This is actually very interesting, in which condition instead did you try your 110PT? If they were the same as my test, we may have solved the problem: Citroen tested their car in very favourable conditions, and the 5/10 kph difference between me and you is probabily correct.

Mostly flat motorway, about 20 degrees outside temperature, fuelled with super plus 98 octane gasoline. 17” Michelin summer tires, Cactus is from may 2019 with about 6000km mileage. Was trying to reach top speed several times within 30 km.

I reached a topspeed of 196km/h in Germany in july on flat autobahn with no problems at all. 100 octane in the fuel tank, around 22C and with 16" Michelin all year tires. But I can´´´ t say it felt good...
My catus is a 1.2, 110 from 2015.
