2017 (67) bonnet latch problem

Post by andymulley » Sat Dec 21, 2019 4:02 pm

So, today my wife was driving on a dual carriageway A road with our 3 year old son in the back... when the bonnet opened up all by itself... the latch seemed to become completely disconnected from the main frame of the car.

I see there was a recall with earlier models but has anyone had issues with later models?
I can't see how to upload images.

Our 2016 had the bonnet latch recall I think they replaced the catch not the mechanism if that helps

This is awful. Mine (64) was called in on a recall, I hope this never happens to me.

Citroen knew there was an issue hence the recall, your car should still have this fixed under extended warrantee.

There should still be cover on this car as the warranty is 3 years (assuming UK purchase). However, this may cover the problem with the latch, but they may try to decline the extra work on the bodywork. If you have some kind of legal cover via your insurance policy or AA/RAC, you might want to speak to them to find out who could be liable.

Sad news regarding your Cactus. Hope the occupants were ok.

The recall was to add a strengthener plate to the catch on the bonnet itself. There should be some pics on here in the archives of it fitted. Be wise to compare that pic with the catch on your ‘17 bonnet.
