Puretech dangerous fault

So had the car for 4 years, put quite a few commute miles on it, 110 Flair 94K with FSH.
Recently it's started using oil - the reason i know this is the problem: i had to do an emergency stop on the motorway; engine fault light came on, stop engine warning appeared on the screen. The engine idled but refused to rev so i was stuck in the overtaking lane with a non-functioning engine.
I turned the engine off, with the hazards on, and it re-started and pulled away ok. But, it's since repeated this scenario under cornering (several times after going round a major roundabout) and left me with no power, having to pull over to the side of the road and re-start the engine. Very un-nerving and not something i want to repeat with my family in the car.
If i fill up with oil the engine light and problem disappears, but it's now using a litre or so every 2Kmiles, which is beyond the service recommendation.
I've decided that i can't keep the car now: it's let me down in several situations and put me at risk . And this is from an engine that won 'engine of the year' i think in 2013? Crazy. Needless to say i'm having to consider a far more conventional commute car that can take the miles. Sad- i love my Cactus, but i'm not prepared to be put at risk by this design fault.

Until you've found out what the cause of the oil consumption is can it be regarded as a design fault?

Don't get me wrong, in this day and age an engine should be able to get up to that sort of mileage without using that amount of oil but if a component is worn / broken then surely it's better to address that than just replace the entire car?

The oil is going somewhere, it's it's not coming out of the engine via a gasket then it's coming out via other means, are you smelling anything or seeing any "smoke" out of the back?

Have you had any diagnostics done?

The symptoms sound sensor related but the oil consumption doesn't tally with that theory.

I got my engine changed at approx. 90,000km when it used too much oil, under warranty as it a known fault on this car.
I got it tested at the dealer, they fill it up with oil and then you have to drive 1000km and they measure the consumption.

You're right, i don't know the cause of the consumption. That's not necessarily the fault - it's more that when the low-oil(?) sensor is triggered in an event that has a high g-load the engine goes into idle/limp mode. It's clearly designed to prevent engine damage, but to make it undriveable puts people at risk.
Topped-up with oil it's fine, check engine light is gone, all ok. But it sounds like there is a known issue with high oil consumption. Wether mine is covered we shall see..

very interesting link.
i spoke to a local dealer about this last week and they denied any knowledge that this was a known issue.
But, the car has now failed MOT on emissions..so is potentially worthless.
PSA specialist who i use quoted around £4K for an exchange engine, so that's a non-starter. I'm contacting PSA directly about it, but i don't hold out great hope as the car is out of warranty.
Very unhappy; car has been maintained well with FSH. I had some initial doubts about such small engines when the 3cyl trend started a few years ago, but assumed a new car, with 'engine of the year' would be capable of 100K miles easily.
