Upgrade Cactus 2017 with SMEG5 to SMEG6 / NAC with Carplay

Post by SillyPosition » Tue Sep 17, 2019 1:30 pm

Hi everyone,
I currently own a 2016/2017 Citroen Cactus with the SMEG5 system, which is unfortunately does not support Android Auto.
I was told its possible to upgrade the hardware so that I will have SMEG6 (or NAC?) that has those features.
Can anyone tell me what/how/where to get the parts for this, and how it can be done in general?

Thanks!

I think there could be a problem trying to use with a unit which uses the series 6 software/ firmware :

Looking at this posting viewtopic.php?f=19&t=3092 which discusses fitting a SMEG unit with 5 series software, in the posted text below the second picture, the following explanation is given :

"The software number has to begin with 5. Other softwares are 3.XX.X which is older firmware and 6.XX.X which is SMEG+IV2. I think it is possible to install a unit with older SW but who wants older units, the SMEG+IV2 can not be installed as far as I know. The reason is that all the cars that were originally equipped with it have separate climate control buttons so it lacks a possibility of touch screen climate control configuration."

Maybe it can be done similarly as to it is done by lots of owners of 2013-2017 Peugeot 308SW.

Those cars originally come with SMEG5, 7-button Touchscreen and no Carplay. In the 2018- facelift, Peugeot changed to a NAC system with 6-button touchscreen.

Lots of people (including myself for my 2nd car, 2016 308SW) buy a used NAC from a facelift 308, a new screen and a Quadlock adapter and telecoded the new NAC to their cars VIN. Since the rest of the car is almost the same, the NAC works 97% flawlessly in the pre-facelift cars. For my 308SW, it was a well worthy upgrade which I dont regret!

Since I let the telecoding be done by an eBay seller, I cant verify if this works with Cactus aswell. Maybe anyone here wants to try?

I'm in a similar situation and have been looking into 3rd party products. The dealer told me it had Android Auto (obviously it does not) and regardless of how much cash I was willing to part with Citroen have told me no can do. So in terms of third party modifications this is the most promising to me: http://navitechus.com/product/detail.ht ... ay_group=1 but I can't find much discussion about it so haven't pulled the trigger yet

Hello everyone.. just poking my head into see if anyone might have an update to this threat. Has anyone been able to find a workaround to get CarPlay working on a pre-2017 model Cactus?
