What car did you come from to the Cactus ?

Post by JohnYoung » Wed Jul 13, 2016 11:18 pm

Just thought I would ask this after seeing one person had come from an Audi Q5 to the cactus - quite a difference in range, price and some would say status (not me - Hate how people think a car brings them status  )

So what car did you come from

Why

Main Difference (good or bad)

For me its Mazda 6 - End of 3 year agreement - Cactus has way better MPG and is more comfy and has LOADS of toys

Back in 2002 I had a fairly new Citroën C5/I 2.0 HDi, but unfortunately it was not without rather irritating problems (mainly electrical failures). After a year I switched over to an almost new BMW 318d Touring. That car was really great and I kept it for 10 years and drove 340000 Km (212000 miles) with it without any major problems. Then I bought a new VW Up! (a new job and public transportation was/is more convinient), but on the following summer holidays (2014) in France I saw a C4 Cactus and to me it was a revelation in great design and packaging to a reasonable price. The Up! was sold (a great car though) and a couple of weeks later I was the proud owner of one of the first registrated C4 Cactus in Denmark. Almost two years later it has passed 57000 Km or 35000 miles (mainly due to some long trips to Germany and Norway) completely without any problems.

I had Citroen 1.6 VTR+ for 10 years with no problems just servicing. :D Needed an auto or in the case of the Casctus semi auto and the car ticked all the right buttons for me.

BMW Mini Cooper 2011, after a year found it really boring. Nice topic by the way. ;)

As my car history shows I'm a Citroen fan. I had DS3 (1.6 THP) for 2.5 years and then bought a 3008 e-THP but we didn't "clicked" so I sold it after only 7 months and 5500 km.
Now with my Cactus for 3.5 months and 4200 km and I LOVE IT.

BMW X1 MSport and a brief stint in my wife's Ford BMax. Purely for financial reasons. It's not fair to compare the cactus to the X1 so I won't, except to say that the cactus has lighter steering, I can get three people on the back seat and has a larger boot.

Previously I had a 2007 MINI Cooper S and while it was fun when you were in the mood for a B-Road blast, on the day to day commute it was just too harsh, rattly and I had too many concerns about the reliability (the Prince N14 had many issues when tuned up in the Cooper S - Oil usage, timing chain issues, high pressure fuel pump failure, ...).
