This fortunately/unfortunately was the 8v Carb K Series which was an utter git of an engine. It had all manner of reliability issues (apart from it being in a Metro) clattering hydraulic valves on acceleration which I never did resolve, the head gasket had a tendency to leak only when it felt like it but not all the time, and because the engine/transmission is inserted from beneath (ok when it was the A series) once you removed any component bigger than a fist there was no way of extracting from the engine bay without breaking loose the engine mounts and jacking the engine sideways away from the car! Small jobs instantly became bigger jobs!

The final nail in the coffin was driving into Uni one day I took a humugous speedbump in the car park at slow speed and perfectly wedged the sump into directional road plates (flaps which prevented people driving out the in) mullering the sump pushing the sump nut up even deeper into its recess. It became someone elses problem ;)

Anyway it served its purpose keeping me on the road yet my Mini hankering is returning, stronger than before and now the MX5 is gone I have room in the garage... :P

If we're doing full lists, here's mine, from when I passed my test in 1988;-

1980 Ford Escort Mk2 Estate
1978 Austin FX4 black ex-London taxi (Used it as a normal car for driving to work etc, I wasn't a taxi driver, but I always wanted one! Mind you, very slow out of town, not a sports car by any means, but it was fun)
1979 Ford Escort Mk2 1.6L saloon. (Fitted Ghia seats from another 4 door saloon I'd bought for spares)
1986 Ford Capri 1.6 Laser
1992 Ford Escort LX
1988 Citroen BX (Base model, woefully underpowered, 4 speed box, struggled to do 70! What were Citroen thinking?) :o
1984 Renault 11 auto (Wanted one because of James Bond driving one in A View To A Kill!)
1986 VW Golf GTI (Only had it 2 weeks, it had been thrashed by previous owners and was completely clapped out. It let rain into the foot wells too!)
1987 Vauxhall Cavalier hatchback. (The Antibes Special Edition)
1984 Ford Sierra Ghia
1988 Ford Sierra
1988 Volvo 480 ES
1993 Ford Sierra Azura sappire saloon
1980 Land Rover Lightweight
1997 Ford Ka
2004 Ford Ka
2006 Smart Forfour 1.1 Passion. (My first brand new car. Trouble free motoring for 9 years and it's still going strong with it's current owner. This first generation of Smart Forfour was designed in Germany by Mercedes. Was based on the Mitsubishi Colt, so was super reliable with Japanese engines and it was built in Holland in the old Daf/Volvo factory. Loved this car very much. The new current Smart Forfour is the same car as the Renault Twingo with the engine in the back. Looks extremely ugly too, which is why I would not buy one)
1991 LTI Fairway ex-London black taxi. (Yes, another one, but this later cab had the Nissan 2.7 diesel and so went a lot quicker than the old one with the BMC engine. It was great fun too, especially driving in London. Other cab drivers let you out and no one cuts you up. People try to hail you for a fare, but your not allowed to pick them up and I wouldn't want to anyway. I got asked directions when stopped at traffic lights by people who assumed I was a real cabby!
2003 MG ZTT Estate. (Same as the Rover 75 tourer)
2015 Fiat Panda Easy
2016 Citroen Cactus Feel 82 petrol manual in Blue Lagoon. Lovely car!

Nope. When I was younger I always was irritated to drive with just the one car. Now when I have the money I buy cars that I like to test, repair or drive for a while. Then I sell them away when I get fed up with them. I call this a hobby. Doctors and mates have other names for this...

Hi all

I got rid of my Volvo S40 and picked up my C4 Cactus today!

The S40 was a good car, but being a saloon the boot 'hole' was ridiculous - a big boot was wasted by the narrow entry hole. Having a new baby, we struggled to get everything in...

Also, the C4 goes twice as far on a tank of petrol and is 1/10th of the price for road tax!
