Anyone going to a launch of the new 2018 cactus ?

Post by JohnYoung » Sat Feb 17, 2018 6:39 pm

I had a telephone call and a letter from my dealer about a launch event for new 2018 cactus. I don't usually go to these but I think I will for this one as I am keen to see what its like (and maybe get some freebies ;) )

Had a test drive today in the new 2018 cactus and its a very smart car. Did not get a good test drive as the roads around the garage were very busy (rush hour) so standing still a lot but its a very comfortable car. You can tell as soon as you sit in its more comfortable than the current cactus.

Some things I noticed -

Has the same big glove box

I could not find a way to permanently disable eco-mode

Does not have a USB slot in glove box but does on the centre console

The screen seems much more responsive

The speedo readout is a little bit smaller and numbers a little less chunky (think I prefer old one)

Comes with space save spare (instead of puncture kit) :D

No rev-counter :(

Engine will be 130 bhp petrol :D and I think he said 120 bhp diesel but it seems the diesel will only be with auto gearbox to start not sure if manual will come later and they will be 6-speed and they are quick according to the sales people.

The car has much more sound deadening and acoustic glass 8-)

Seems like a nice car and looks smart but I will wait until the autumn to find out for sure with a proper test drive in the full range of engines

It also has twin cup holders in the front and an internal light in the rear of the passenger compartment

This is the one I drove

The launch Diesel is the same 100bhp unit as the current model and it’s a 5-speed manual; the 120bhp with a 6-speed manual is coming and they also do an EAT6 Auto with this engine in other models too

Yeah the sales guy said there was a 120bhp diesel coming but at first it would be automatic and he was not sure when or if there would be a 6-speed manual - I would think there would be

He also said the petrol would be 130bhp and it goes like stink 8-)

Also the arm rest is no longer there. Well it is but so small its hardly there. I know some people disliked the old one and said it got in the way but I liked to use mine on long journeys
