Engine fault. Please have engine repaired.

Post by Anuc70 » Sun Sep 15, 2019 6:54 am

Hey guys! I own a Cactus 1,6 HDI 100 hp from 2016. Yesterday the service indicator lit on and “engine fault” appeared on the dash board. Every time i start the engine it takes a few seconds until it appears again. In addition to that, the engine cooling fan starts and is working until i stop the engine. Does anybody knows what this means, before i go to an authorized workshop?

I had this on a C3 110bhp HDi. Turned out to be an injector. Also had it on a C4 Picasso 2.0 HDi, along with other warnings. That turned out to be a fualty Adblue system.

I had this problem on my C4 Cactus. I had a roadside call out which put the car through a diagnostic check and there were no engine faults found. Under warranty, the car went back to the dealer. It was a faulty sensor unit. I was reassured and told it was ok to drive. New sensor unit was ordered and fitted=no further problems. Bit scary, at first but alright in the end!

I had the same issues, "have engine repaired" came up in the screen. It turned out to be the NOX sensor Code of (P2202). The Diagnostic cost £116.00, the sensor and ECU download was £58, total job with labour a horrendous price of £439.70.

You were ripped off! £116 for plugging it into a computer - Rip off! on top of the £58 for the sensor and ECU download, the labour should have been a maximum of one hour, if not just a few minutes.

This is why I still have an error coming up on our car that still seems to be working perfectly, I know Citroen is my only option (I've used FAP myself and approached a local specialist who won't look at any more Citroens :)) but it's going to be a bitter pill to swallow when it comes to giving them big money for a diagnostics check on a fault that shouldn't happen on a car with such low mileage.

Plus having tried to book in at 2 local dealers and been ignored I keep forgetting.

To the OP - do you have the "MyCitroen" app installed on your phone? It doesn't tell you much but can give you different error to that being seen on the touchscreen - mine for example is a "general engine dysfunction" which you can see more of my pointless ramblings on this and fruitless checks of things that are possibly unrelated like AdBlue here:

I don't know where you live, but my garage is AE Wilcox & Son, Wickwar, Gloucestershire who I wholly recommend. I've used them for about 30 years and never had a problem with service - they go above and beyond and although a Citroen dealer now have never charged me for hooking up to a computer. Give them a call for advice - it cannot hurt to do so.

Hope you get it sorted.

I'm up in Leeds unfortunately (and have tried dealers here and Bradford) but ultimately it's me expecting them to respond to online contact requests, I need to just remember to pick up the phone :)
