Which engine?

Post by flanders457 » Mon May 28, 2018 12:09 pm

Hi, I am in UK and looking to possibly get a cactus in the next few weeks.

will be a 16 or 17 plate flair

I only do about 6k miles a years and most days just short runs of 2 or 3 miles.

Not sure whether to get 110 petrol or the diesel? not really any difference in price.

Just worried if i get diesel I will end up with a blocked dpf? I usually do at least 1 long run once a month.

is the service cost much more on the diesel? are either any less reliable?

cheers

On that use, diesel would be utter madness.

All the engines are good, I have a diesel C3 Picasso and a 1.2 110 SS Cactus Rip Curl.

You do not need the 110 either. It is quite quick but not needed for the potterring about you do,. In the end decide on price /condition/ deal, but avoid diesel.

I agree..An 82bhp, and much easier to find, would be fine for what you want and need. The 110`s are quite hard to find, although most are in Flair trim. But avoid the diesel as per advice above.

You will be surprised just how good the 82 bhp engine is.

Had a 82 rented during holidays abroad, unfortunately not even close to my 110 back at home.

Im impressed with the 1.2 turbo 3 cylinder. It will never race the le mans GP but its pokey enough around town and it held the fastest speed allowed on the UK motorway (70mph and not a penny more ^_^ ) i used the cruise control most of the way back to the SW and it still averaged nearly 50 miles to the gallon!! Still cant tell you which engine model it is though until our v4 comes through.

in my experience if you don't regularly run a diesel up to temperature you will encounter some problems along the way due to them not being able to regenerate as intended. (DPF and EGR can be most costly)

Hope this helps

If its 1.2 and turbo then its the 110 engine...

Given your mileage the 110 Puretech is a no-brainer to be honest

I had the Diesel Flair and was doing very little mileage. I read up and asked around about the DPF and was advised to trade the car in for the petrol version. Then all that was available was the 82bhp so got that. I have to say it's a nippy little thing and can hold it's own up the dual carriageway against more powerful engines. The acceleration from stop is way faster than the diesel was, and I don't have to change down gear as much as I did in the diesel when driving round bends. The only thing I've found I'm not so keen on is the mph. I was getting about 54mpg from the diesel, and getting 47mpg from the petrol. Before it's third service in March though, which was done at the local dealership, the car is only doing 42mpg so not sure what they've done but the mpg has dropped quite a lot. I'm contacting them this week about it as nothing's changed, still driving the same amount of miles on the same roads at the same speed.
