I can't get ours to update - I can manually update the maps from the USB stick but the actual firmware update never seems to run. The car recognises the stick, does the whole "checking" process and then never comes back to ask me to update.

It doesn't do the initial "Software Update" screen I've seen some people mention (and that's pictured in the guide xireland shared here back in Jan 2017) - it jumps straight to the "Update Level - Checking compatibility..." screen.

I'm using the files the My Citroen app prompted me to get (42006), FAT32 USB stick (16GB), unzipped and checked and all seems well as far as I can see yet no update. I've left it in there for well over an hour while driving around but nothing pops up.

I've tried 5 different sticks, 8GB, 16GB - all FAT32, some default allocation size, others set to different options, no joy.

Currently on SMEG5.4.B.R8
CD: 26378
Date: 01-12-15

Display version 32.00

It's all making me feel a bit daft, I'm an IT guy, I've worked with software for 20 years yet what should be a simple update, prompted by the manufacturer, isn't happening

What's worse it that it's likely to be something I'm not doing right :geek:

I’m also getting the ‘failed - no music files’ error. Any suggestion how to get around this? Compressed File unzipped and then copied to fat32 usb.

Thanks.

Which browser are you using to download the zip file? I use Firefox and don't have any issues - however in the past I have had issues using Internet Explorer and others...

I downloaded using chrome. The download seemed to be fine, and files decompressed ok.

Got this to work now. Carried our the process on a Mac and worked no problem at all.

Still no joy here, downloads tried on Firefox, Chrome and Brave to date, the download mechanism seems fine for all and the files are identical each time. Unzip goes OK, copy to USB also fine, I end up with this in a folder called 42006:

Capture.JPG

I'm copying to the USB so that the above is in the root of the drive rather than it being the 42006 folder and then this.

The instructions from Citroen are somewhat lacking with regards to what you have to do and what the car actually looks for on the USB so I could well be doing this wrong, any input appreciated.

Yes, the zip should be unzipped to the root of the USB device.

My understanding from reading various threads is that the firmware update for a pre-2018 cactus is just the folder SMEG-PLUS-UPG, into the USB root

Ah that's interesting, I don't think I've tried individual folders yet, I presumed something in the root might also be needed.

I'll try that later in the week when I get chance, cheers.

Edit: That folder is only about 800kb in size out of the full 5GB download, surely they wouldn't make me get all that extra data for nothing?

(I'm new to Citroen ;))
