SMEG version / technical docs for 2018 Cactus

Post by abc4 » Thu Aug 02, 2018 3:24 pm

Hi all,

I am in the process of assessing the feasibility of dropping a 2018 cactus head unit in to a 2015 model. Looking at the technical docs for the 2015 head unit, most of it is very standard (CAN + analogue + LVDS to display).

Assuming the CAN stuff matches the climate unit for the 2015 model this may well be a drop-in.

That being said, I don't have any pin-out details or tech docs for the 2018 model cactus head unit. Does anyone know where I can get this? Have a PDF? Some help?

If this works out i'll write it up here for others.

As a note, found some Pug drivers trying a similar thing:

Hi,

would be very appreciated if you keep me in the loop.
Do you want to change just the Unit or also the Touchscreen?
I don´t know if the different Buttons on the 2015 Screen could cause problems.

I would suggest great caution after reading some of the reports of problems with operation and updating of the SMEG + IV2 at the above referenced site :

I get the impression that the "improvements" offered by this later SMEG are not that advantageous in actual operation.

I think the author meant the whole system hardware replacement not firmware upgrade.

The newer Cactus has Bosch system and is called BOSCH PSA RCC A2 and A1. A2 is with satnav and A1 is without. Some information is there:

It is likely possible to change the current unit to Bosch one, there is this option in BSI-s software even which you can see with Diagbox. The screen must also be changed and the LVDS cable too. Bosch main unit has different plug so this must be addressed also.

The cost of buying and installing this sort of stuff must be very expensive. The other problem would that the vehicle would then become a non standard version, which means its second hand price would be further depressed, even with non franchised dealers. Seems overkill just to put a couple of music gizmos in a 2015 Cactus?...still each to their own I suppose
