engine overheating

Post by frankielopez » Wed Apr 15, 2020 8:26 pm

Hi. I have just found this forum and I'm hoping someone can help me.
I have a C4 Cactus on a 65 plate which I bought about 18 months ago with very low mileage. It is the smallest engine and automatic.
I have a problem with it overheating. In traffic (I often have to drive in Central London), the warning light comes on and it overheats. This can happen if I'm stationary too.
I have to admit, I know nothing about car engines, but given that I now have a lot of spare time on my hands, I thought I might try to see if I can learn how to repair it myself. If this is likely to be way beyond me, then fine, but I thought it'd be worth finding out. Thanks for reading this.

Does the cooling fan run? You should be able to hear it. Have you checked the coolant level?

Hi Routemaster1. Yes, the cooling fan does run and the coolant level is fine.

Do you lose any the contents of the radiator when it overheats? Have you checked the system for trapped air, leaks.
`" `In order to win once, you have got to get used to losing a whole lot of times. That's why I no longer buy Fiats.`"
