Fuel System Carbon Filter

Post by MadMax » Mon Jun 29, 2020 10:23 am

Help Needed

Wife came home with this hanging down on the Cactus 1.2 , quick google search show its the Carbon Filter of some sort?

Can anyone tell me what this is used for and if it needs urgent attention or can I place it back in the bracket for now.

The one pipe that enters it has sheared off this is why I ask the importance of this device.

Thank you in advance

This carbon filter is actually a charcoal canister.
In brief: All emissions from a vehicle have been subject to legal regulations.
This also includes evaporating fuels (hydrocarbons) from the fuel tank. Since these so-called volatile hydrocarbons are not allowed to enter the atmosphere, they need to be captured and stored for reuse. So this item's task is the retention of fuel vapors.

BTW, your floor looks so rusty...

Thanks So much for the Feedback, This is what I suspected but it's good to get some confirmation.

South Africa does not appear to have any vehicle fuel emissions standards in place.

Have Secured it back in place until a replacement can be sourced could not repair the broken pipe.

Live in the Country/Farmland think that Rustyness is Dirt Road dust mostly :D

Thanks Again
