Please, there must be one person who can tell me why 'we' need a 1GB firmware update for the touchscreen.

I always said, if the touchscreen works, leave it alone. So, what does this update do?

Marvellous if it gives us free SatNav?

A better, brighter reversing camera at night?

Or worse still, enable us to watch films on the already congested 7 inch display?

I updated my previous SMEG also to the at the time newest available software and FM reception turned out to be much worse. I have read that it is now fixed with the latest update though. My now replaced SMEG has software 5.2.XX and since it works well I will not update anymore. I have had it.
Generally the dealers do not update the software also, they do it according to the internal bulletins in case of customer complaints (I remember seeing a bulletin about postal code issue on C4 Picasso). So there may be issues that are resolved with updates but if you have no complaints do not update.
I have not seen any performance gains (start up time) with the updates as reported by some people nor graphics enhancements, the only thing that was visually changed from 5.0.XX to 5.4.XX was the volume indicator, it was red before and after the update was more darker.
In the end of the day we all have a freedom to decide, some people are just curious and I do not blame them, I am too sometimes.

I don't know, but the BT connectivity (according to the Magnetti Marelli technical document for the SMEG+ unit, referred to in this post : https://www.cactusforums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=3092#p21455) is based on an Infineon module PBA31308.
Also according to this Magnetti Marelli document, Bluetooth 1.1 connectivity is provided.

Not sure if this information is trustworthy since the current Bluetooth version (according to Wikipedia) is now version 5, as of 2016...

I have said before on here I would not update the screen myself on a car like the Cactus were the screen is so integral to the working of the car. If something goes wrong you are up the creek without a paddle or a boat.... and I reckon Citroen could refuse to sort it for you as you have done it yourself.

Well you are right but from the other hand
the system is making so many checking on the files and folders so only when is 100% compatibility will install the new files
and then will check the integrity as well.
So the mistakes to be done is around 0%

I can understand why someone would want to update the firmware. The screen and associated system is just SO variable in the time it takes to boot. I have an IT background but cannot find any data to suggest any of these firmware updates would fix "my" problem with boot speed. Any other enhancements - apart from Apple and Android integration with the unit - are not relevant to me.

It makes the reversing camera pointless as I will not wait to reverse out of my driveway with the engine running just to wait for the camera view to show.

My 2013 Mk7 Golf GTi reversing camera display (a factory option) comes up the moment I select reverse from starting the car.

Poor show Citroen!

It's possibly linked to the satnav acquisition time for 4 or more satellites

I may give it try...perhaps the lack of satellite acquisition could be an issue with slow boot?

However, I have never felt the Nav display to be claiming to be unsighted...unlike my mobile phones.

Why would anyone be reversing out of a driveway anyway and especially using a camera?

Cold engine, backing onto a busy road, steamed up windows, and invariably endangering others.

In the future everyone should learn to reverse into their driveways so they can drive straight out...

See what you mean but I don't think I would take the risk. Plus are the checks just for the file data integrity not if its actually 100% compatible

I live at the end of a cul-de-sac.

Still won't work when reversing out of a Tesco (other stores are available) parking space either....but I could just sit there and burn fuel and pollute until it decides to work.

If my Golf didn't work immediately I may never have thought this was anything other than normal.

If the initial display boot-up time has some correspondence with the time for the initial satnav satellite acquisition, then it should show up in an experiment, as follows:

Temporarily position some aluminium cooking foil around and over the base of the roof top antenna - which I believe is the location of the the GPS antenna - and then start the car to see what the effect is on the screen start-up time.

The RF screening of the foil should significantly degrade the satnav acquisition, and consequently extend the display boot-up time if there is some inter-dependence.

As an addendum - I'll try this and see what happens...

Hello guys, i know i might be late asking this info now...
Please, i bought an used C4 Cactus reg65, it is the Feel 1.6diesel, i've noticed there is no sat nav and system options are pretty poor, the usb doesn't recognize my phone and Bluetooth too is quite clumsy... I'm not sure if it's normal but also aux port is missing...
I was wondering whether it is possible to download the latest firmware available on the mega link kindly provided here and install it, do you think it would be ok?
Thanks very much...

Why shouldn't it be ok?
You can also get it done at a retailer but they will gladly take a nice penny for it.
I have updated my car 3-4 times without problems, only thing is it takes 10-20min where the engine MUST be switched on.
